Diagnose common Z Understand and Refactor issues and permanently remove the workload when needed.

Troubleshooting

Z Understand pod is not running

Check pod status:

oc get pods -n <instance-namespace> \
  -l app=ibm-bobz-understand

Review pod logs:

oc logs -n <instance-namespace> \
  -l app=ibm-bobz-understand

Check the custom resource status:

oc get bob <cr-name> \
  -n <instance-namespace> \
  -o jsonpath='{.status.understand.status}'

Status remains in `ReconcileError`

The operator automatically retries the reconciliation process, and bobctl continues polling for status updates. If the status persists, monitor operator logs:

oc logs \
  -n <operator-namespace> \
  deploy/ibm-bob-operator -f

Secret creation or custom resource update fails

Verify that the required permissions are configured correctly and that the cluster is accessible:

oc auth can-i create secret -n <instance-namespace>

oc get bob -n <instance-namespace>

oc get pods -n <operator-namespace> \
  -l app=ibm-bob-operator

Uninstalling

Use the uninstall procedure only when you want to permanently remove Z Understand and Refactor.

Warning:

Uninstalling removes all workload data and configuration. This action cannot be undone.

Disabling the workload retains all existing data and configuration. In contrast, the uninstall command permanently removes all persistent volumes, allowing the workload to be reinstalled from a clean state.

Disable the workload by updating config.yaml:

bob:
  understand:
    enabled: false

Apply the change:

./bobctl upgrade

Run the uninstall command:

./bobctl understand uninstall

Flag	Description
`--yes`	Skips the confirmation prompt. Suitable for scripted or automated deployments.
`--no-wait`	Updates the CR and exits immediately without waiting for the operator to finish.
`--dry-run`	Displays the actions that would be performed without applying any changes.

Reinstalling

After the uninstall process completes, you can install the Z Understand and Refactor workload again as a new deployment.

Enable the workload in config.yaml:

bob:
  understand:
    enabled: true

Apply the configuration:

./bobctl upgrade

Run setup again:

./bobctl understand setup --config setup.json
