That means more room to put Bob to work: turn a specification into an implementation plan, build and test a feature, or explore a codebase from your preferred editor. If you've used Bob mainly to write code, there's more to try across your development workflow.

The higher limits apply automatically for existing customers on the applicable individual plans. There's nothing to claim or activate, just more Bobcoins ready for your next task.

Paid-plan Bobcoins renew each billing cycle. The free trial includes 50 Bobcoins for 30 days.

Bobcoins are a consumption-based billing metric used for IBM Bob plans. They measure your use of Bob's AI capabilities, with the number of Bobcoins consumed based on the computational resources required for each action. Your plan determines how many Bobcoins are included in your monthly allocation.

More room to build with Bob

With more Bobcoins included in your plan, you have more room to work with Bob through a feature's development, from figuring out where to start to preparing changes for review.

Work with Bob in your preferred editor: Through Agent Client Protocol (ACP), you can connect Bob to compatible editors and clients, including IntelliJ, Neovim, and Zed. Use Bob to understand code, implement changes, and review your work within the environment you already use.

Bring automated checks into your development workflow: Work with Bob to make a change and generate tests, then use lifecycle hooks to run configured checks at specific points in the session. For example, a hook can run a test command after Bob edits a file. The hook runs the check directly; your Bobcoins support the AI work, such as generating tests or investigating failures.

These are some of the ways you can put your additional Bobcoins to work, using the capabilities you already rely on and exploring what's available in our latest release.

The additional Bobcoins give you more capacity to bring Bob into these steps of your project, including work you may previously have handled without it.

When you need more

If you use all the Bobcoins included in your paid plan before your next billing cycle, you can enable overage to continue working with Bob. Overage lets you use additional Bobcoins at USD 0.50 each, charged to your monthly bill. You pay only for the extra Bobcoins you use.

You choose the maximum number of additional Bobcoins you're willing to use. For example, setting an overage limit of 20 Bobcoins allows up to USD 10 in additional charges.

To enable it, open Bob Administration → Subscription → Edit, set your overage limit in Bobcoins, and save. Once enabled, overage stays on until the month ends, though you can adjust the limit. It resets to off each month, so you'll need to enable it again if needed.
