Migrating

How to migrate your task history and settings when upgrading IBM Bob to a newer version.

Before you begin

When you download a newer version of Bob, you are guided through an optional migration workflow that attempts to carry over your task history. Migration does not guarantee complete accuracy, so it is optional and not recommended unless you have a specific need for your previous task history.

Your settings are automatically carried over during the upgrade. No action is required on your part.

Migrate your task history

When prompted during setup, choose one of the following options:

  • Migrate last 14 days: transfer your task history to the newer version.
  • Skip Migration: start fresh without your previous task history. This option is recommended for most users.

Your settings are automatically carried over

You do not need to take any action to keep your user settings. Bob automatically migrates your settings during the upgrade.

Stay on your current version

If you prefer to remain on your current version and prevent the automatic update, you can do this if you are on version 1.0.2:

  1. Open your settings.json file.
  2. Set update.mode to manual.

This prevents the automatic update from applying.

Important:

If you set update.mode to manual, be aware that leaving this setting as manual indefinitely might also block future automatic updates after you eventually upgrade. Revisit this setting when you are ready to upgrade to ensure you continue receiving updates normally.
